How much does 1 Gbit fibre cost in the Netherlands? 2026 data

1 Gbit/sGigabit per seconde: 1000 Mbit/s. fibre without TV costs a median €38.10 a month in the first year in the Netherlands (Kiesbeter Internet Price Index, 29 September 2026, n = 78). The average is €38.85; the cheapest works out at €11.67 a month and the most expensive at €78.00. The monthly price is the provider's first-year total divided by 12, so one-off costs and cashback are included. After the promotion you usually pay more: for the cheapest 1 Gbit/s plan, year two costs €45.00 a month. Compared with 101–500 Mbit/sMegabit per seconde: de eenheid voor internetsnelheid. 8 Mbit/s is 1 MB per seconde. fibre, 1 Gbit/s costs only €2.31 a month more at the median.

A median €38.10 a month in the first year. Of the 78 fibre subscriptions with exactly 1,000 Mbit/s download and no TV, half are cheaper and half are more expensive. Over a full year the median comes to €457.20.

The spread is wide: the most expensive 1 Gbit/s plan costs almost seven times as much per month as the cheapest. That difference is mostly promotions. One plan has months of discount plus cashback, another has none. So don't judge a deal by the average; compare the total cost of concrete plans at your address on our internet comparison.

On the reference date it was Odido's Thuis Glasvezel Internet 1.000Mb: €140.00 for the whole first year, or €11.67 a month. It is also the cheapest 1 Gbit/s plan over the full contract: €680.00 for 24 months, an average of €28.33 a month.

The last row matters most. The low first year comes from a discount at the start. In year two you pay €45.00 a month, more than the median first-year price of all 1 Gbit/s plans. Over two years it is still the cheapest, but the fair number to compare is the €28.33 average over the contract, not the €11.67. Promotional prices change monthly, so the cheapest plan today may not be the cheapest next month; the index is updated every night on the price index page.

A median €2.31 a month more than 101–500 Mbit/s fibre, and €12.10 more than fibre up to 100 Mbit/s. Going from 500 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s therefore costs little extra; plans above 1 Gbit/s cost a median €4.98 more again.

In Kiesbeter's comparison every fibre plan in the 501–1000 Mbit/s class has exactly 1,000 Mbit/s, so that class equals 1 Gbit/s. Notably, the lowest first-year price is €11.67 a month in every fibre speed class: a sharp welcome deal can set the price at any speed. Most households don't; 100 to 500 Mbit/s is plenty for streaming, video calls and gaming. Because the extra cost over 500 Mbit/s is small, 1 Gbit/s can still make sense if several people work from home, you download large games or files, or you want headroom for years. Remember that Wi-Fi often limits real speeds to well below 1 Gbit/s; only devices on a cable or with recent Wi-Fi get close.

• Choose 1 Gbit/s if the price difference with your alternative is a few euros and your household is large or upload-heavy.
• Choose a slower plan if the saving is bigger than a few euros a month and nobody transfers large files.
• Check upload: fibre plans usually upload as fast as they download; cable uploads much slower. Ziggo's 1 Gbit/s cable plan has 100 Mbit/s upload (Ziggo).

The figures come from the Kiesbeter Internet Price Index, which we recalculate every night from the subscriptions in our comparison. For this article these definitions apply:

• 1 Gbit/s: exactly 1,000 Mbit/s maximum download, fibre as the first network the provider states, internet only (optionally with a landline). Packages with TV are not included.
• Full contract: the total cost over the whole contract term as stated by the provider, divided by the number of months. The €45.00 a month for year two is derived: contract total minus first-year total, divided by 12.
• Which subscriptions: every available internet package in Kiesbeter's comparison on 29 September 2026: 1,360 subscriptions from 10 providers. That covers internet only (optionally with a landline), internet + TV, and internet + TV + calling. SIM-only and TV-only plans are not included.
• Monthly price in year one: the total cost of the first 12 months as stated by the provider, including one-off costs such as connection fees and after deducting cashback, divided by 12. We do not recalculate those totals ourselves.
• Median and average: the median is the middle price: half of the subscriptions are cheaper, half are more expensive. Outliers affect it less than the average. Groups with fewer than 5 subscriptions get no median or average.
• Unweighted: every offer counts once, however many customers it has. The figures describe what new customers are offered, not what Dutch households pay on average on their current bills.
• Limitations: only providers in Kiesbeter's comparison; the national range of offers, not what is available at your address; promotional prices often change from month to month. Variants of the same plan on different networks count separately.
