Internet in Rotterdam for expats: fibre, cable and providers (2026)

As of 29 September 2026: according to the municipality of Rotterdam, four companies build fibre in the city: KPN (for example Delfshaven, Kralingen, Crooswijk, Hillegersberg, IJsselmonde and Nesselande), Open Dutch Fiber (Prins Alexander, Charlois, Hoogvliet, Feijenoord and Noordereiland), DELTA (Hoek van Holland, Rozenburg and Pernis) and Glaspoort (Pernis and business parks). KPN says 53% of Rotterdam homes are on its fibre. On KPN and ODF you choose from several providers; on DELTA's network the choice is smaller. Ziggo has cable in most of the city. Parts of older neighbourhoods, such as the Oude Noorden, are still waiting for fibre.

Status as of 29 September 2026, checked against the sources at the end of this article. Fibre networks expand street by street and providers come and go; the address check for your own home always has the final word.

Rotterdam has four fibre networks, more than most Dutch cities. The municipality doesn't build any itself but issues permits and encourages sharing (municipality of Rotterdam).

In Hoogvliet, Feijenoord and on the Noordereiland both KPN and ODF are present, so you have the most choice there. KPN also took over Primevest's fibre networks in 2023, including addresses in Rotterdam, and added them to its open network (KPN, June 2023).

Four districts, built since 2021, according to ODF's Rotterdam project page:

• Prins Alexander: from November 2021, more than 41,000 households in Ommoord, Zevenkamp, Het Lage Land, Oosterflank, Prinsenland and 's-Gravenland.
• Charlois: after Prins Alexander, about 32,000 households.
• Hoogvliet: about 16,000 households, with the first addresses online from August 2023.
• Feijenoord: about 34,000 addresses in Katendrecht, Feijenoord, Afrikaanderwijk, Hillesluis, Bloemhof and Vreewijk.

Yes: Ziggo has a cable network in most of Rotterdam, and in many neighbourhoods it is the fast alternative while fibre is still on its way. Only Ziggo sells internet over the cable network in Rotterdam (Vodafone sells the same Ziggo internet with its mobile plans).

Downloads on cable are fast (up to 2 Gbit/s according to Ziggo), but uploads are much lower than on fibre, which matters for video calls and large uploads. See fibre or cable internet.

Usually not in an ordinary rental: there you arrange internet yourself. It is typically included in student rooms, shared houses, furnished short-stay apartments and buildings with a collective network, charged as service costs (servicekosten) at actual cost with an annual statement (Huurcommissie). The rules: internet included in your rent.

In new-build apartment buildings fibre is often already in the home, but some buildings have a collective contract arranged by the landlord or developer, so ask whether you are free to choose your own provider. If you live in Hoek van Holland or Rozenburg, the DELTA network means a smaller choice of providers.

Ziggo is the only large provider that says it has an English-speaking customer service team available 24/7; with the others you can manage in English, but most of their websites are in Dutch. What the providers say on their English pages:

Yes, but not with the usual 1- or 2-year deals. Odido Klik&Klaar costs €26 a month plus €20 one-off, gives up to 300 Mbit/s with unlimited data over Odido's 5G network and can be cancelled monthly (Odido, checked 29 September 2026). KPN offers fixed internet you can cancel monthly, from €45.50 a month in January 2026 but without the discounts of a longer contract (Keuze.nl).

A provider that is "available in Rotterdam" is not necessarily available in your street. In Prins Alexander you are usually on ODF, in Kralingen on KPN and in Hoek van Holland on DELTA.
