Internet in The Hague for expats: fibre, cable and providers (2026)

As of 29 September 2026: in The Hague (Den Haag), KPN and Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) build fibre, each in its own part of the city, because the municipality divided the city between them in 2022. KPN says 60% of homes in The Hague are connected to its network. According to the municipality, all of Loosduinen and Segbroek are finished, as are neighbourhoods such as Benoordenhout, Bezuidenhout, Mariahoeve, Ypenburg and the Statenkwartier; work is still under way in parts of Centrum, Scheveningen, Laak and Escamp. Both networks are open, so you choose from several providers. Ziggo has cable on about 98% of addresses (providers.nl), and Caiway has its own network in Wateringse Veld.

Status as of 29 September 2026, checked against the sources at the end of this article. Fibre networks expand street by street and providers come and go; the address check for your own home always has the final word.

The Hague has two large home fibre networks, KPN and Open Dutch Fiber, each covering its own part of the city, plus Ziggo cable almost everywhere.

The split dates from April 2022, when the municipality agreed with KPN and ODF that each would take roughly half the city, so streets would not be dug up twice (Voorburgs Dagblad, 5 April 2022). The result: in most streets there is one fibre network, not two. Because both are open, you still have several providers to choose from on each.

Most of the city, but not all of it. According to the municipality of The Hague (checked 29 September 2026):

• Finished: all of Loosduinen and Segbroek; Bouwlust and Vrederust, Morgenstond and Wateringse Veld (Escamp); Benoordenhout, Bezuidenhout and Mariahoeve (Haagse Hout); Hoornwijk and Ypenburg; Duindorp and the Geuzen- and Statenkwartier (Scheveningen).
• In progress: Archipelbuurt, Willemspark and the centre (KPN); Transvaalkwartier, Schilderswijk, Stationsbuurt, Zeeheldenkwartier and Groente- en Fruitmarkt (ODF); Leyenburg, Moerwijk, Laakkwartier and Spoorwijk (both); Leidschenveen and the rest of Scheveningen (KPN).

So if you are looking at a flat in the Archipelbuurt or Willemspark, ask whether fibre is already connected; in Benoordenhout or the Statenkwartier it should be available. KPN reports 60% of homes connected on kpn.com.

Yes: according to providers.nl, Ziggo cable reaches about 98% of addresses in The Hague. In Wateringse Veld, Caiway also has its own network. Only Ziggo sells internet over the cable network in The Hague (Vodafone sells the same Ziggo internet with its mobile plans).

Downloads on cable are fast (up to 2 Gbit/sGigabit per seconde: 1000 Mbit/s. according to Ziggo), but uploads are much lower than on fibre, which matters for video calls and large uploads. See fibre or cable internet.

Usually not in an ordinary rental: there you arrange internet yourself. It is typically included in student rooms, shared houses, furnished short-stay apartments and buildings with a collective network, charged as service costs (servicekosten) at actual cost with an annual statement (Huurcommissie). The rules: internet included in your rent.

In The Hague many expats rent upstairs or downstairs apartments in older town houses, where the fibre connection may need the landlord's or owners' association's permission. Students at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and other colleges may live at DUWO's Campus Den Haag; DUWO says Ziggo supplies internet in a large share of its complexes, but not all.

Ziggo is the only large provider that says it has an English-speaking customer service team available 24/7; with the others you can manage in English, but most of their websites are in Dutch. What the providers say on their English pages:

Yes, but not with the usual 1- or 2-year deals. Odido Klik&Klaar costs €26 a month plus €20 one-off, gives up to 300 Mbit/sMegabit per seconde: de eenheid voor internetsnelheid. 8 Mbit/s is 1 MB per seconde. with unlimited data over Odido's 5G network and can be cancelled monthly (Odido, checked 29 September 2026). KPN offers fixed internet you can cancel monthly, from €45.50 a month in January 2026 but without the discounts of a longer contract (Keuze.nl).

A provider that is "available in The Hague" is not necessarily available in your street. In the ODF half, for example the Zeeheldenkwartier, you choose from the ODF providers; in the KPN half, such as Scheveningen, from the KPN providers.
