Internet in Maastricht for expats: fibre, cable and providers (2026)

As of 29 September 2026: in Maastricht, Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) and KPN build fibre, roughly on either side of the Maas. ODF says it has connected more than 31,000 households, mainly in Maastricht-West (including Daalhof, Caberg, Malberg, Mariaberg and Biesland) and parts of the centre. KPN builds mainly in Maastricht-East, and from January to April 2026 worked in the Jekerkwartier, the Stokstraatkwartier and the main shopping area. KPN says 64% of Maastricht homes are on its network. Both networks are open. Ziggo has cable on about 86% of addresses (internetpostcodecheck.nl). Maastricht has many international students, and many rooms come with internet.

The ODF neighbourhoods come from ODF's Maastricht project page. The boundary doesn't follow the river exactly: both companies build in the centre.

Yes. ODF finished its large-scale roll-out in the centre by December 2025, and KPN's work in the east was nearly complete by then (1Zuid, December 2025). The municipality's schedule shows KPN and its contractor working in the Jekerkwartier from 12 January to 27 February 2026 and in the main shopping area (Grote Staat, Kleine Staat, Muntstraat) from 26 January to 3 April 2026 (municipality of Maastricht).

The municipality extended its agreements with KPN to at least 2028, so that every neighbourhood gets its turn; in some ODF neighbourhoods a second network will then follow. KPN's 64% on kpn.com only counts its own network, so it says little about how many Maastricht homes can get fibre in total; internetpostcodecheck.nl estimates about 70%.

Yes: according to internetpostcodecheck.nl, Ziggo cable reaches about 86% of Maastricht addresses. Only Ziggo sells internet over the cable network in Maastricht (Vodafone sells the same Ziggo internet with its mobile plans).

Downloads on cable are fast (up to 2 Gbit/s according to Ziggo), but uploads are much lower than on fibre, which matters for video calls and large uploads. See fibre or cable internet.

Usually not in an ordinary rental: there you arrange internet yourself. It is typically included in student rooms, shared houses, furnished short-stay apartments and buildings with a collective network, charged as service costs (servicekosten) at actual cost with an annual statement (Huurcommissie). Maastricht University points international students to Maastricht Housing and its own UM Guesthouse (Maastricht University); check each listing to see whether internet is included. Ziggo is the only large provider that says it has an English-speaking customer service team available 24/7; with the others you can manage in English, but most of their websites are in Dutch. What the providers say on their English pages:

Yes, but not with the usual 1- or 2-year deals. Odido Klik&Klaar costs €26 a month plus €20 one-off, gives up to 300 Mbit/s with unlimited data over Odido's 5G network and can be cancelled monthly (Odido, checked 29 September 2026). KPN offers fixed internet you can cancel monthly, from €45.50 a month in January 2026 but without the discounts of a longer contract (Keuze.nl).

A provider that is "available in Maastricht" is not necessarily available in your street. In Daalhof or Caberg you are usually on ODF, in Amby or Heer on KPN.
